About This Cottage

Our Great Island Getaway is a duplex — two matching, mirror-image units (2A and 2B) under one roof. Each side is the same size and includes:

Unit 2A
  • · 1 bedroom
  • · 1 bathroom
  • · 1 kitchen
  • · 1 living room
  • · Private outdoor grill
  • · Porch with a patio set for 4
  • · 3 beach chairs
Unit 2B
  • · 1 bedroom
  • · 1 bathroom
  • · 1 kitchen
  • · 1 living room
  • · Private outdoor grill
  • · Porch with a patio set for 4
  • · 3 beach chairs

The two units share one outdoor shower.

The cottage can be rented as a single side or both sides together. There's a connecting door between 2A and 2B — similar to an adjoining hotel room door — which stays locked unless both sides are booked by the same party.

House Care

This cottage has been part of our family for years, and every guest who treats it a little bit like their own helps us keep it that way for the next family too. A few small things that make a big difference:

  • Porch umbrellas: It gets surprisingly windy here on the Cape — we've had a few umbrellas take flight! Please leave them folded rather than attaching them to the tables.
  • Grills: There are veggie grilling trays for the grates — the cooling racks are meant for countertop use only. A quick scrub-down after your last grill of the week goes a long way for the next guests.
  • Garbage: Please use the cans on your own side only — it keeps pickup simple for everyone.
  • TV & Internet equipment: Please don't unplug anything — it may affect the folks on the other side of the cottage too.
  • Spills happen: If something spills on the floor, couch, or bedding, just do your best to clean it up and let us know — catching it early makes a huge difference for getting it fully clean before the next guests arrive.

Thank you — it truly means a lot.

A Few Tips to Help Things Go Smoothly

A little insider knowledge from us to you — these small things make a big difference for your stay (and the next family's too).

Furniture & Fixtures

  • If you move furniture around, we'd love it back in its original spot before you go — helps us and the next guests start fresh.
  • Please don't adjust the length or height of the chandeliers — they're delicate, and if one breaks, replacement would come out of the security deposit.
  • We'd rather banners or garlands not be hung on the chandeliers, but if you do, please remove them carefully before checkout — our cleaners won't handle this, so anything left behind or damaged may affect your deposit.
  • Please don't move the dressers. They're secured to the wall for child safety — an unsecured dresser can tip and seriously injure a child who climbs on it. Pulling it away from the wall also damages the wall itself, and our cleaners won't catch or fix this before the next family arrives.

Little Comfort Tricks

  • The couch cushions are designed to stay put with the waffle-cut carpet pad underneath them — if they start slipping, that's usually why.
  • Before sliding the porch doors, try opening the louvered blinds first — much smoother! If a blade ever pops out, just click it back into place, or use the tape in the kitchen drawer to keep it tidy in the meantime.
  • Keep windows closed while running the AC — it'll cool the space much more effectively.
  • Please keep the white couch slipcover on at all times. If you can't find it, it may be under a bed or in a closet — or just text Josh and he'll help track it down.

Before You Go

  • Please take home anything you brought into the kitchen — coffee, tea, juice boxes, and other personal items.
  • A quick check under the beds and inside cabinets/drawers helps make sure nothing gets left behind.
  • Spills on the carpet or linens happen! Please do your best to clean them up, and if you can't get it out, just let Josh know — a quick heads-up goes a long way, and it helps avoid any question about the security deposit later.

Thank you for taking such good care of our little piece of the Cape — it genuinely means a lot to us.

From our family to yours

A Few Wishes From Our Little Cottage

This cottage has been part of our family for years, and sharing it with you is genuinely one of our favorite parts of owning it. We hope your stay is full of salty air, good food, and the kind of memories that make you want to come back every summer.

Since we love this little place so much, we do have a few small wishes for it too — things that, if we're being honest, make our hearts hurt a little when they happen:

  • ❄️ We wish the AC unit would stay exactly where we screwed it — into the window, not onto the lawn.
  • 🕯️ We wish our battery candles would be admired for their ambiance rather than tested for their flammability. (They are, despite appearances, not real flames. We learned this the hard way too.)
  • 🥦 We wish the veggie tray would get more love on the grill than the cooling rack — they're not interchangeable, we promise.
  • 🛏️ We wish the decorative pillow shams could stay decorative. They do make lovely extra pillows in a pinch — just slip the case off first, and slip it back on before you go!
  • ⛱️ We wish beach umbrellas would come home with their people, rather than staying duct-taped to the patio table long after the vacation ends.
  • 🍽️ We wish dishes and utensils would take a little detour through the sink before returning to their shelves and drawers.
  • 🪟 We wish the sign on that one 2A window ("please don't open — it's broken!") carried a little more weight than it apparently does.
  • 🪑 We wish our beach chairs would stay loyal to their corral instead of wandering off into the sunset.
  • 👣 We wish we knew what left those mystery footprints from the front door to the bed. We truly may never solve this one.
  • 🎚️ We wish the sliding door blinds could stay upright and uncrumpled — and if they do take a tumble, we'd love a little help standing them back up.
  • 💥 We wish the sliding door and the blinds could simply coexist peacefully, rather than the door closing directly on top of them.

None of this is a big deal — truly. We just love this cottage, and we love that you're here. Thank you for treating it a little like your own.
